I've hit a deer or come across a deer or other animal that has been hit by another vehicle and I'd like to keep it. What do I do?
If you hit a deer or come across a deer that has been struck by another vehicle and you would like to keep the deer, you must call the Department of Natural Resources at (608)267-7691 to obtain authorization by telephone. The Sheriff's Office no longer issues tags for car-killed deer.

If you wish to claim a turkey or bear that has been killed by a vehicle, call the Sheriff's Office for instructions prior to transporting the animal.
