Unpredictable weather patterns mean it’s never too soon to start thinking about spring weight restrictions. Seasonal weight restrictions can vary from year to year, usually beginning sometime between mid-March and late May. At this time, Price County does NOT have an anticipated plan, but we are checking frost tubes continually and keeping up to date on long-term forecasted weather.
The goal of these limits is to reduce road damage and keep the highways running smoothly. As frost melts and comes out of the ground, the roads become more fragile causing cracking, rutting and damage that is costly to repair. Highway infrastructure funds are hard to generate, and to avoid the expenses of repairing or replacing roadways due to heavy loads during the spring — spring weight restrictions were born.
Once the frost line is deep enough for moisture to escape, the imposed weight restrictions are lifted.
Please feel free to take a proactive approach to the inevitable and apply for your seasonal 2026 permit at https://www.co.price.wi.us/.../Permit-to-Exceed-Posted... . This will avoid any delays due to the influx of permit requests once the declaration has been made.
Further updates will be posted on Facebook and the Price County Website.

Thank you to all for your continued cooperation and preservation of Price County’s roadways.
