ATV / UTV Registration
Wisconsin residents must display a registration sticker on their ATV or UTV. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources offers
registration services via the Internet. This service is a secure, easy and convenient method to register your recreational vehicle using a credit card. Online registrations must be validated by a
DNR office or an authorized agent prior to operating the vehicle in Wisconsin. The validated receipt allows you to operate a recreational vehicle while waiting for the registration certificate and decals. This service is available 24/7.
ATV / UTV Non-resident Trail Pass
Wisconsin law requires non-residents who use Wisconsin ATV/UTV trails to display either an
ATV non-resident trail pass or register their recreational vehicle in Wisconsin (see above).
The trail pass can be purchased online at DNR online licensing center - Go Wild!
https://gowild.wi.gov/ or over the counter at any
license sales location.
The trail pass must be permanently affixed by its own adhesive in a highly visible location on the forward half of the ATV. Once affixed, the sticker may not be removed or transferred to another ATV.
Regulations
It is the responsibility of recreational vehicle operators to know and abide by the
Wisconsin All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) & Utility-Terrain Vehicle (UTV) Laws. Contact the Department of Natural Resources or local law enforcement authorities with questions. Local ordinances may be more restrictive than state regulations.
