Tax Certificate is assigned to current year taxes September 1st of each year (example - 2015 unpaid taxes have tax certificate issued Sept 1, 2016). This starts the countdown for taking Tax Deed/In Rem Foreclosure. Once real estate taxes are unpaid for 2 years from the date Tax Certificate is issued, the Tax deed/In Rem Foreclosure process begins with a publication in the local newspaper in April (for delinquent 2015 taxes this will be April 2018), Title searches are then started 6 months after the publication. Fees incurred from the publication, title searches, certified mailings etc... are added to the unpaid taxes. Below are links to properties currently in the In Rem Foreclosure/Tax Deed process.
In Rem Foreclosure is nearing the end on the 2013 taxes. The 2nd Amended petition has been filed with the Clerk of Courts on 3/28/2018. If 2013 taxes are not redeemed (paid)by May 30, 2018, Price County will take ownership of the property following a 30 day answer period, and court date set in July with land auction to take place possibly in Sept. Link to the filed 2nd amended petition and newspaper publication (Notice of Commencement)listed below.
Unpaid 2014 tax parcelswere published in the Price County Review April 2017. Title Searches have now started on the 2014 unpaid taxes. This is the next step in the foreclosure process. The additional title search fee has been added to the parcels.
